So, recalling that the Machine Worlds were a tough nut to crack in terms of bombardment needed, I figured that Sterilization Hub 001 would make an effective testbed for my brand new, World Cracker-equipped Colossus, the HMS Thoughts and Prayers.
And it worked gloriously, wave after wave of suicidal corvettes (reinforced via a gateway at each of four dedicated shipyards and another in the system adjacent to the hub) kept the much stronger contingency fleet pinned down while Thoughts and Prayers came in from the opposite end of the system via jump drive. Many corvettes were lost, but the tactic was -extremely- successful in buying the planet cracker time to do its job.
And that's where the bug rears its ugly head, breaking what was a very immersive experience. It appears that destroying the sterilization hubs via Colossus does not 'satisfy' the event in the way that bombarding them does; the planet did change to a shattered world, and the Contingency did lose control of the system. However, the Ghost Signal did not weaken, and the situation log still showed four machine worlds up, tracking the first still indicating the recently-liberated system.
Based off of said observations of the ghost signal and situation log, I expect the contingency event to be in a non-completeable state following the use of a World Cracker on one of the Sterilization Hubs. Nonetheless, I'll continue to play the game out and will update if it turns out I was able to complete the event chain.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
With Contingency Crisis active, order Colossus to 'Crack planet' on one of the Sterilization Hubs.
